Don't come too close, I'll turn you into poetry,
For my words will wrap you up in rhyme.
And leave you lost in lines sublime,
Don't get too close, I'll immortalize your beauty with words.
My verse will hold you like a spell,
A poetic tribute to tell.

Keep your distance, don't come near,
Or I'll spell out your greatest fear.
I'll expose your sorrows in syllables,
And spread your grief across the page like soiled linen.

But should you brave the poet's gaze,
I'll grant you gifts you cannot imagine.
A wondrous world of words and phrases,
Exotic fabrics of well woven metaphors,
A never-ending saga, entrancing.

But tread lightly, tread with care,
For in a moment you'll be bare,
Your secrets will be naked, no longer hidden.
Your thoughts exposed, your motives forbidden,
Only then will I spin you words, my friend,
Only then will the story end.

Should you chance to prove your worth,
If your soul dares hold forth.
I'll spin you verse and rhyme and metre in a lovely medley,
I'll weave your mind a lovely conceit.
Of strength, of valor, whatever you seek,
I'll make you wings, and let you fly,
Give you gills and let you dive into the sea.

I'll make your tongue a silver knife,
That cuts as sharp as any thief.
With words you'll be invincible,
Well woven phrases, you'll be plausible.
My poetic meters you'll be irresistible,
With song you'll be invincible.

I'll turn your world upon it's head,
I'll kill the living, raise the dead.
Ill turn the moon a bloody red,
And throw gold in the sea.

With lines and stanzas, I'll change your mind,
I'll leave you with no place to hide,
And put the sun where the moon has spread,
And change your gold to bitter lead,
And leave you wanting to flee.

A poet is cut from a different cloth,
So, if it occurs to you to pledge your troth,
Please do so from a safe distance,
Or find yourself in a deadly trance.
