When someone leaves


When someone leaves you once,
It cuts deep like a knife,
And you begin to build up walls,
To protect your wounded heart.

You start to distance yourself,
From those who could cause pain,
Afraid of getting close,
And feeling that hurt again.

You stop letting people in,
Afraid they'll walk away,
You keep your emotions guarded,
And your feelings at bay.

But in doing so, you miss out,
On the joy that comes with love,
You close yourself off to happiness,
And the beauty of friendship's touch.

So take a chance, be brave,
And let someone in again,
For not everyone will leave you,
And the ones who stay will mend.

Don't let fear dictate your life,
Or rob you of the chance to find,
The kind of love that's meant to be,
The kind that's patient, true, and kind.

Open up your heart once more,
And let the healing begin,
For not everyone will leave you,
And in their presence, you will win.
