Petrichor
Petrichor is the earthy smell of rain.

The word comes from the Greek words 'petra', meaning stone, and 'ichor', which in Greek mythology refers to the golden fluid that flows in the veins of the immortals.

I grew wings
from my own genesis.

I was a halfling:

a native of two worlds
one from the cosmos
of polite dreaming

and the other
in the concrete of passive living

she nursed her sorrow
like mulled wine
cinnamon-hinted

she was always
melancholy

like the color lilac
but there are days
like this one,

where she'd grow
wings
just by seeing
the aftermath of rain

greeting her
sweetly

—the petrichor.

the scent
of earth,
of mud,
of grounding energy

and

everything
that reminds you
that it gets
washed away.

The sins,
the pain,
the sorrow
and the constant despair.

It gets renewed
cleaned,
awakened

after the rain.

The sun
will shine

A day
begins again.

Like all
battered things,

a new beginning
awaits.
