Colorado
On a path between the bungalow houses,
I turn toward the fountain spray
where families watch branches race
in a stony river.
Dover bush and cherry blossom
nestled at the foot of a flatiron column.

Waterfalls of Pueblo patterns
drape the windblown laundry lines.
Rocky breezes wrap around ponderosa
like summer’s embrace.
Quaking clouds and thunder-strain
are whispers in the prairie rain.

On a path of shaded dusk
gold beams slide on Colorado waters
as the trails of time
are beaten within my memory.
Elk bugle and lark bunting tone
are written on the slabs of ancient stone.
