Ibadan
Ibadan.
One night with you has left me awake—
the jollof spaghetti eaten in the bedroom,
schoolbooks stretch out on warm marble floor—
I covered a dozen pages before I kissed you
Good night, and might as well wake someday
to hang a Good morning on your soft staying breath
But then, for now, I clinch on a moving slope escorted by sky trees
and could ponder long how a tiny peeling strum keep awake—
One night and half a day.
