The Visage of the Sand
My shadow changes into a mere memory
When the demons ensorcell me.

For the mirror shows a single reflection,
But my cosmos visions numerous apparitions -
As the colours of my past
That linger deep in my soul.

For I recall my old periphery
And scour for an antidote to this reverie.
Dwelling in the shades of my own ghost
As I feel my past summon me once more.

For I am the visage of the sand
Changing beneath the whimsical tides
I present myself in the form of particles
That have been carved by the revelling waters.

My shadow change into a mere memory
When the demons ensorcell me.

The goal here was to create a poem full of mystery, with the main topic being something else, in this case, self-worth. So what better mysterious poem than an allegory? I have tried to write such a poem in which the reason for the title is not clear unless you read it towards the end. I have also repeated the first couplet, which means how certain experiences with people and the fear of being judged change us, in order to add more mystery, as those lines may leave you confused when you read them at first but you understand them after reading the poetry completely.
