"Just be yourself" they say... (a poetry)
#WritcoPoemPrompt44
Just be yourself" they say, but who am I anyway? It's hard to be your true self without encountering judgement and discrimination.
"Just be yourself" easy for them to say. They don't know what kind of situation I'm all in. They don't know I'm tired of people trying to tell me "you should be like this , you should be like that". You must become like her, you should do this, stop doing that, try doing this, don't be like that. Become like this, like that. I'm dazed and frustrated. Now, myself is a lost identity. I can become just like her... If only I'm pretty. I could also do that... If only I'm smart enough. Yes I could try that... If only I'm wealthy.
"Just be yourself" they say, they're the one to talk. Babbling about this and that. I want to shout at the top of my lungs, this is who I am and what I wanted to be. But right now to be honest I don't exactly know who I am. What am I made of?
"Just be yourself they say" ok this is the last time I'll say this.
I can't be like her! She's too smart! I could also study hard, but don't interfere!
I can't be like her! She's so pretty! I could also try my best to be confident, but don't tell me to be an imitation of her face!
I can't be like this and I can't be like that!
I'm sorry to put your atmospheric level of expectations at the bottom of hell. For who I am is nothing for you to care.
