Childhood trauma has been experienced by most people obviously at varying degrees.

However, its impact will come to the surface later on in life: during our teenage and adult years.

Not everyone is ready to delve into that chapter of their life. Some people do it when they get to a key moment in their existence and others choose not to even start.

When parents don't spend quality time with their children the message they are giving them is of abandonment and neglect.

The child feels like the parents don't care enough to be there emotionally and physically. Feelings of worthlessness, shame , guilt and fear may also be stored alongside neglect.

Self-neglect is visible in a multitude of ways:

not taking care of yourself physically, eating the wrong things, abusing substances, not expressing your emotional needs, not investing in yourself, etc.
