Once Upon an MRT Station
Okay, so when I was on my way back to my home country, I decided to take the MRT to get to the airport. Of course, with my luggage, it is only normal for the security officer to have suspicions on me. Therefore, he asked me to open it.

He asked me, "Where are you going carrying this much?". I told him I was going to visit my family because I'm on a holiday, which was in a way quite as much of the truth as the situation would be perceived. Then he asked, " Oh, you are a student aa?", and he guessed where I was from.

Surprisingly he was correct.

Then, I asked, "How did you know?". Confidently, he answered, "I can tell from your face, you look Indonesian". That was the first time anyone has ever said that I look Indonesian, and I must say, it made me quite happy.

Knowing I was Indonesian, he started talking about the president. It was surprising since he was not even an Indonesian. After I asked him how he knew, he told me he loved reading about politics. Out of seemingly nowhere, we started talking about war and politics. Especially the conflicts between Russia and Ukraine, and also Israel and Palestine.

I could tell, he had always wanted to talk about this topic with anyone. Perhaps, he had had no one else to talk to. At least, about this topic. It could also be because he simply loves talking about politics. Does he have anyone to express his passion in politics? Well, not even I can tell. After all, I had only known him for a mere few minutes.

I never really do care to tell what I really think, and I quite enjoy hearing another person's point of view. Putting myself into his point of view was quite entertaining. It was as if I was actually talking to an old relative of mine, like my grandfather, or my uncle's uncle.

Of course, that does not mean I entirely agree to his opinion. But taking sides is really not what I do. War is terrible, regardless which side you are on. There is no winner, only those who either die or at loss. Still, I enjoyed hearing him talk so passionately. It was an amazing short moment.

It is always surprising how people in general always have a story to tell. Thinking of the possibilities of events in each person's point of view can be overwhelming. But life as a human in a herd of humans is exciting that way. And I bet your stories, your neighbors' stories, and every other human's stories, are just as exciting.
