Thank You Is Not Ordinary.
In my first year in University, I met someone who could say "𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂" twenty times in one hour.

Kachi literally said thank you for everything.

The first time when we met as new students for our clearance, I found it very funny that he thanked the clearance staff for every minor interaction.

It was a hot afternoon and Mrs Favour, one of the clearance staff, politely asked him to stop. She explained that she was just doing her job.

I was puzzled by his persistence, even when it seemed unnecessary.

Sometimes, I begged him to stop.

He never did.

Kachi and I became very close and he showered me with gratitude.

He did it to everyone just the same way and I continuously mocked him.

• ᴬ ᶜᵘᵖ ᵒᶠ ʷᵃᵗᵉʳ⁻ ʰᵉ ˢᵃʸˢ ᵗʰᵃⁿᵏ ʸᵒᵘ.
• ᴬ ᶜʰᵃⁿᶜᵉ ᵗᵒ ˢⁱᵗ ᵇʸ ʰⁱᵐ⁻ ᵃⁿᵒᵗʰᵉʳ ᵗʰᵃⁿᵏ ʸᵒᵘ.
• ᴴᵉ ˡᵉⁿᵈˢ ʸᵒᵘ ʰⁱˢ ᵇᵒᵒᵏ⁻ ʰᵉ ˢᵃʸˢ ᵗʰᵃⁿᵏ ʸᵒᵘ.
• ʸᵒᵘ ʳᵉᵗᵘʳⁿ ᵗʰᵉ ᵇᵒᵒᵏ⁻ ᵃⁿᵒᵗʰᵉʳ ᵗʰᵃⁿᵏ ʸᵒᵘ.
• ᴬⁿ ᵃⁿˢʷᵉʳ ᵗᵒ ᵃ qᵘᵉˢᵗⁱᵒⁿ⁻ ᵗʰᵃⁿᵏ ʸᵒᵘ.

• ᵂᵃᵛⁱⁿᵍ ʸᵒᵘ ᵍᵒᵒᵈᵇʸᵉ⁻ ʰᵉ ᵗʰᵃⁿᵏˢ ʸᵒᵘ ᶠᵒʳ ᵗʰᵉ ᵈᵃʸ.

There was a way he said it ~ A way that made you feel good about doing a little good.

It sparked my curiosity and one day, I asked him why.

In his exact words:
"ˢᵃʸⁱⁿᵍ ᵗʰᵃⁿᵏ ʸᵒᵘ ⁱˢ ⁿᵒᵗ ᵒʳᵈⁱⁿᵃʳʸ. ᵂʰᵉⁿ ʸᵒᵘ ˢᵃʸ ᵗʰᵃⁿᵏ ʸᵒᵘ, ⁱᵗ ʳᵉᵛᵉᵃˡˢ ᵗʰᵉ ᵈᵉᵖᵗʰ ᵒᶠ ʷʰᵃᵗ ʸᵒᵘ ᵐᵃʸ ʰᵃᵛᵉ ᵗᵉʳᵐᵉᵈ ˢʰᵃˡˡᵒʷ."

-A laugh.

"ᴵᵗ ʷⁱˡˡ ᶜʰᵃⁿᵍᵉ ᵗʰᵉ ᵖᵉʳˢᵖᵉᶜᵗⁱᵛᵉ ᵒᶠ ʸᵒᵘʳ ˡⁱᶠᵉ.", he said.

-Another laugh .

I nodded like I understood clearly what I heard but it left me in thought for days.

One day, his sister came by and it was then I realized it was a family sickness.
"Was everyone in his family always like that?"

So, I tried to do it.

The day passed and I realized that I had not expressed gratitude to anyone, as I had intended to do.

My major aim was to prove something to myself, that I too, could be weirdly nice, rather than genuinely appreciating others.

The next day I attempted to express gratitude like Kachi.

I said the first five thank-yous but they were artificial and insincere.

The people I thanked were taken aback and gave me weird looks and nods.

It made me wonder.

The following day, I resolved to find true meaning in my expressions of gratitude.

The first person's smile reassured me, and it brought me great satisfaction.

On Saturday morning, I thanked my dad for responding to my greeting.

He felt good about it.😅

---------------------------------
Kachi's habit may have been excessive, but he taught me the value of appreciating others.

As I reflect on Kachi's influence, I realize that his habit was not just about expressing gratitude but also about acknowledging the humanity in others.
By thanking everyone for everything, he recognized the value and dignity of each person he interacted with.

I may not say "thank you" twenty times an hour but I am more mindful of the impact my words can have on others.
