The government's sudden decision to ban the internet sent shockwaves through the region, leaving Ahmed and his community reeling. Without warning, the lifeline that connected them to the world outside was severed, plunging them into a state of isolation and despair.

(20 Aug 2019)
Ahmed sat in his small, dimly lit room, his eyes fixed on the blank screen of his phone. It had been days since the internet was shut off, plunging the room into a suffocating silence. Outside, the streets were deserted, devoid of the usual hustle and bustle. The government-imposed curfew had turned Kashmir into a ghost town, and Ahmed felt like a prisoner in his own home.

He sighed heavily, his thoughts drifting to his mother, who lay in the next room, battling a severe illness. Despite his best efforts, he had been unable to get her the medical attention she desperately needed. The hospitals were overflowing with patients, and the doctors were overwhelmed. Every passing moment filled Ahmed with a sense of helplessness and despair.

Suddenly, a knock at the door jolted Ahmed out of his reverie. He rose from his seat and made his way to the door, his heart pounding in his chest. As he opened the door, he was greeted by the worried face of his neighbor, Mrs. Khan.

"Ahmed, have you heard anything?" Mrs. Khan asked, her voice trembling with fear.

Ahmed shook his head, his throat tight with emotion. "No, Mrs. Khan. The situation seems to be getting worse by the day."

Mrs. Khan nodded solemnly, her eyes filled with tears. "I'm so worried about my husband. He went out to buy groceries yesterday, and he still hasn't returned."

Ahmed placed a comforting hand on Mrs. Khan's shoulder, offering her a reassuring smile. "I'm sure he'll be fine, Mrs. Khan. We just have to stay strong and look out for each other."

As Mrs. Khan nodded gratefully, Ahmed closed the door behind her, his mind racing with worry and uncertainty. He knew that he had to find a way to get his mother the help she needed, no matter the cost.

(Pause- Reviewing the situations amid lockdown imposed)

Life came to an immediate standstill as all activities ground to a halt. Ahmed watched helplessly as his father's once-thriving business crumbled under the weight of the government's restrictions. The shops in the main market of Srinagar, where his father had invested his blood, sweat, and tears, now stood empty and abandoned.

As days turned into weeks, the situation only grew bleaker. The government's imposition of Section 144 further exacerbated the devastation, turning bustling streets into desolate ghost towns. Ahmed's family, like so many others, found themselves trapped in their own home, prisoners in a cell of despair.

With each passing day, the once vibrant city of Srinagar became a shadow of its former self. The hospitals, once beacons of hope, now struggled to provide even the most basic medical care. Ahmed's heart ached as he watched his mother's health deteriorate, knowing that there was little he could do to help her.

But perhaps the cruelest blow of all was the toll it took on the youth. With schools and colleges shuttered indefinitely, dreams were put on hold and aspirations crushed. Depression seeped into the hearts of the young, casting a dark shadow over their once bright futures.

As Ahmed came back to the room, staring at the mountains from his window, tears welled up in his eyes. The weight of the government's decisions bore down on him, threatening to suffocate him with their cruelty. And in that moment, he felt utterly alone in the silent darkness that had engulfed his world.
