My former teacher who had been the librarian in my middle school-phase, once asked me the meaning of "Gist", after I asked her how one should find a suitable, interesting book from among thousands of volumes.. I said tgat I did not know, and she flared up.. I didn't know what on earth made her so furious out of nowhere.. Then, she said, "Go and find out the meaning and report to me in your next library-period.. " I did the due, and she assigned me the task of identifying age-appropriate books for students my age, next.. Of course, I did the needful.. I did not know this incident was going to change my life forever.. My insatiable appetite for books was triggered by those few unwitting seconds of not knowing what "Gist" means.. There is something about teachers that makes them a notch above others, even above those who are experts in psychology and physiology and sociology and everything in between.. She knew that humiliating me (albeit in a one-on-one conversation) would do the trick.. She thought I was worthy of flaring up for and that it would give way to a voracious reader (not just of Books) shortly thereafter.. I am eternally grateful for that ignorance, it made me a book-lover and thus, life-lover.. #MyMusings
