A Broken Rendezvous
It was a beautiful Summer’s evening, and I was sitting on a bench by the beach.
The Sun was at its final stages of leaving our shores for lands unknown.
What a privilege to have the chance to immerse in one of nature’s finest tapestries, a perfect blend of golden russet with a tinge of pastel pink, a sight to behold, a gloriously vibrant Sunset.
With the gentle cool breeze brushing past me, and without realising it, I began to have flashes of memories from an awful event from my past.
The sunset on that unforgettable day was as beautiful as today, picture-perfect.
The incident is something I have a hard time forgetting.
On that dreadful evening, I was waiting for my friend to arrive, and as the surroundings were so relaxing, I was too engrossed that I didn’t notice when he arrived.
He appeared to be out of breath as he gave me a beautiful bouquet and apologetically said,
“Sorry, I'm late”.
I took the flowers and replied,
“ I didn’t mind the wait “.
His embrace was a tight hug, yet it felt gentle and tender.
He released his grip and gave my hand a touch of a kiss.
His eyes were sad as he looked at me. I felt something was amiss.
He glanced at his watch, shook his head and then said,” I'm Sorry I Can’t stay,”
I was shocked and bewildered, as it was less than ten minutes, and he was off and on his way.
The long-awaited romantic date never didn't happen as it wasn’t in my destiny.
My thoughts turned into a multitude of questions, all swirling in my head, and all I could do was stare at the ocean as far as my eyes could see.
A good while later, I took the flowers I had taken earlier to throw them in the bin when I noticed a small heart-shaped box taped to the stem of a red rose.
I opened the box, and a ring fell to the ground.
Upon retrieving it, I could see the words “Love-token”, with both our initials written on it.
But before I could think further, A little voice said,
Reality check, Don’t ask why, don't create unnecessary stress, do yourself a favour and admit that he probably wasn’t the right fellow.
My heart butted in and said, Take some time, distract yourself, but try not to wallow in sadness.
