cold planet (chapter 3)
The steal doors open and the cold air from the inside of the building pushes into the night blowing chills across my cheeks. I pull up the time on my communicator, 230 a.m and I think its time for another cup of coffee. There is a small room with a coffee machine in the corner. The warmth of my chest when it hits is like it's warming my soul. Jillian is standing in the door way holding some files when I turn and look at her. " No rest for the wicked huh?" she asked " I don't sleep much these days anyways" I gave her a smile. She's not bad on the eyes and has a warm smile that reminds me that maybe this planet hasn't completely gone to shit. Maybe one day I'll buy her a drink but tonight I have tow bodies lying in there with no answers. " Want to take a look a the bodies detective?" Jillian started heading down the hallway and I follow with coffee in hand. We make it into the main room, the two bodies lay cold on metal tables." I have established that both were killed the same way. shot to the head. however they may not have been killed at the location you found them" she pulled the sheet further down the torso of the woman. I was now fully interested in what she was about to say and she definitely didn't disappoint. " apon further inspection I found this detective" She put a device on the stomach and a digital screen appeared exposing the inside of the body. "Nothing" she declared as her head turned looking up at me " There is an incision near the kidney and my guess would be is that is where they removed the organs" "And both bodies are the same?" " Both the same detective" I walk over to the wall of screens to the corner of the room pull out a cigarette and light it. Looking back at her I know she wants to tell me to put it out but it's 3 a.m at this point and she just gives me that disappointed look and annoyed smile that she always gives. " So they were taken somewhere and their organs were removed, stitched back up then left in the street to look like they were just gunned down and robbed. However the are both missing one finger." Jillian walks over with some close up photos of the hands. "both were clean cuts, there are no signs of the bones being sawed or splintering fom a break. they were sliced right through, clean. Now get that cigarette out of my office" She hands me the photos, her smile again warms my heart faster than that cup of coffee did. I make my way out of the building into the city. I have to get a couple of hours of shut eye just so I can keep moving, apparently someone is harvesting organs, maybe selling them to other cities. I might know someone who could have some answers. But first I need sleep.
