That Destined Day
Chapter 03

The sound of the root breaking resounded in the silent forest. The creature paused, then an ear piercing screech left its enlarged mouth.

It swiped its claws forward and threw the remaing part of the root away, scratching her arm in the process. She tried to crawl away but the pain in her hand and the shock of the situation finally caught up to her. She couldn't move.

The creature's tongue slithered and wiggled in the air out of its mouth, the saliva dripping with a disgusting stench permeating from it.

It let out another screech and lunged on her. It's teeth bared, it's claws sharpened. She couldn't help but cover her eyes with her uninjured hand on instinct even when she knew that it would be all in vain.

However, the pain she expected to experience never came.

She removed her hand and opened her eyes to see a glowing arrow pierced through the skull of that creature from the back. She was shocked enough but when the arrow vanished and the creature slowly started to dissipate and merge with the soil leaving behind the greenery, she didn't know if shock was the only thing she felt.

"You're hurt."

"Huh?" The sudden voice jolted her out of her trance. She took her eyes off the place where the creature was once before and saw a man clad in blue and silver robes standing just behind it.

"You're hurt." The man said again. She followed his gaze to her hand and remembered that he was referring to her injured arm.

"Um, yes." She tentatively looked at the man trying to gauge him out. His clothes were completely different from the one's that she was used to. His long hair and piercing eyes were sparkling silver that shone in the light reflecting from the water.

The man quirked his slender eyebrow, only then she realized that she was staring. She blushed a little while diverting her eyes. The corners of the man's lips slightly lifted at her reaction then quickly returned to normal.

"Do you need help?" He asked, his voice smoothly flowing with the rustling wind.

She was skeptical about many things but she knew that if the man wanted to kill her it wouldn't have taken him this long. Moreover, he was also the one who just saved her, although, it was his intension or not she didn't knew. Her gaze wandered around the forest one last time before she spoke,

"Yes, I do."
