Darkness in my heart and in my soul
I closed my eyes and regained my control
no more sadness and no more pain
within a few minutes, a new angel was gained.
I struggled inside to find my own way
though I was tormented each and everyday
the more and more I tried to escape
I opened my eyes and I was without my cape.
The years of drinking caused me to stress
behind closed doors, I was just a mess
I struggled inside to fight this thing
when I closed my eyes, I was an angel with wings.
So many years of sadness and shame
I looked at myself with so much to blame
the constant stress of trying to be
when it's all said & done, I just wanted to be free.
