Pills of Positivity Part 2 - Meera.
Following is a poem called 'Mhara Re Giridhar Gopal (meaning : My consort is Krishna alone, who lifted a mountain called Govardhan) written by Meera, in the Rajasthani language.

Meera was initially a Rajput princess, born in Mewar region of Rajasthan, during medieval times. She was married to the crown prince of Mewar.

After untimely death of her husband, she chose to be a renunciate, owing to her intense devotion towards Krishna.

For this decision, she had to face a recurrent series of harassments from her In-laws, particularly from her brother-in-law, who wanted her to be his wife.

Many legends surround Meera's life, the anecdotes of which can also be found in many of her poems. One such legend says that when she disapproved of her brother-in-law's proposal to marry her, he sent a pudding-bowl which contained poison, intending to kill her.

Meera knew about it yet she happily drank the entire bowl, with her mind immersed in a spiritually ecstatic union with Krishna. Miraculously, she didn't died.

For listening to this song; I'd recommend the singer-duo Aks & Lakshmi's rendering of it, which is available for free on their Youtube channel.

Just type - 'Mhara Re Giridhar Gopal by Aks & Lakshmi' on Youtube.

Mhara Re Giridhar Gopal…Doosra Na Koya…

(Krishna who lifted a mountain called Govardhan, alone my in consort, no one else).

Sadha Sakal Lok Joya…Doosra Na Koya…

(There's no one like him in the whole World…)

Bhaya Chaadya…Bandha Chaadya…Chaadya Sagaa Hoya…

(I've left my kith, my kin, and all my relations to be completely in devotion towards Krishna…)

…Saadhu Sang Baith Baith…Lok Laaj Khoya

(...And by residing among other renunciates I've become totally free from all the worries & shame, pertaining to the society of the householders)

Mhara Re Giridhar Gopal…Doosra Na Koya…

(Krishna who lifted a mountain called Govardhan, alone is my consort, no one else).

Sadha Sakal Lok Joya…Doosra Na Koya…

(There's no one like him in the whole World…)

Bhagat Dekhya…Raaji Hya…Lagat Dekhya Royaa…

(Being among the company of Krishna devotees fills me with joy…But whenever I happen to meet any householder…I again become sorrowful…)

…Doodh Mat Ghrit Kadh Layaa, Daar Daya Chooyaa.

[... For me my spiritual life was as if someone would consume the tasty yogurt which is produced after churning milk (meaning - to be in company of other Krishna devotees) , and discard everything which is leftover (meaning - staying in a hermitage, away from the society of householders) ]

Raana Vish Ro Pyaala…Bhejya Priya Magan Hoyaa…

(...When my husband's younger brother sent me a bowl of pudding filled with poison…I happily drank it all, instead of being anxieted).

…Meera Ree Lagan Lagya…Hoda Ho Jo Hoya.

(... Because I was convinced that Krishna has accepted me as his wife, so why should I fear death?)

Mhara Re Giridhar Gopal…Doosra Na Koya…

(Krishna who lifted a mountain called Govardhan, alone is my consort, no one else).

Sadha Sakal Lok Joya…Doosra Na Koya…

(There's no one like him in the whole World…)

–Written by lady-saint Meera, 15th-16th century.

Image credit : I created the above image using Bing AI. The symbolism behind this image is that saint Meera is imprisoned by her brother-in-law when she refuses to marry him post the death of her husband.

He then sends a bowl full of pudding mixed with poison, intending to kill her. Legend says that Meera drank all the pudding, engaged in a spiritual trance despite knowing it was poisoned. Then also she didn't died.
