The Emptiness
People see me alive,
I say that I am great
Maybe they even believe the lie
Maybe my smile reaches my eyes
I look down and I hope they think I am shy.
I may feel warm to many,
Those who just know me from afar
They just don't know about the hidden tears
A tale of sorrow and heartbreak, so bizarre
A lifetime of repentance for my past sins
The Emptiness that I hide beneath my skin.
Some of them sense the coldness,
Their whispers of wonder follow me around.
Does she have feelings? Is she even human?
I am familiar with those haunting sounds.
I don't feel my heart beating
I am like an old corpse rotting below the ground.
The scars beneath my flesh,
They are still rubbed raw and red
Every night I lie bleeding
And fantasize that I am dead.
I wish my darkness, hollowness and emptiness
Would seep into other people's veins
But I love the hollowness and the hopelessness
And I let my emptiness take the reins.
