Broken chains
I never thought it could come to this...

It all started with my desire to have time to myself. I was a guy who, you can say was "popular. "
I never felt lonely because I was blessed with friends and a big family who continued to shower me with love. I never experienced rejection due to my looks and charms that attracted girls to me. Dating throughout my teenage years became boring pretty fast, entering adulthood. Getting into a serious relationship became my obsession than a simple desire. After one meaningless relationship to the other, in time I was finally able to link up with a woman who was generous and understanding. She was not like any woman, I had dated in the past. While other woman were looking for some fun with no strings attached, she was the opposite.
It was more than her looks that attracted me to her. Her personality drew me in.

Although we had a long distance relationship, our love thrived. I mean this relationship came with some risk that I had to be prepared for. Not meaning her alone, I could have broke her heart also. Despite how far apart we were, it felt like we were just next door neighbors. She lived in Australia while i lived in Southern Africa. We first met each other at comic con. Surprisely, we had a lot in common than we thought. In the midst of three years,
We started living together at Australia. Living together seemed easy at first glance but it was hard to adjust to the situation immediately. Day by day, arguments emerged from the littlest things. It took some time to rebuild our relationship, it was different from talking to each other on our phones. We were physically in the same place...At the end of the year, we had our first born, who was a girl named Alisa that we adored. She adopted her mother Characteristics. I'd imagined her first word to be dadda, papa or something like that but it ended up to be Dave. My wife right after Alisa said, "Dave" laughed. even though it wasn't fluent, It was clear as a glass. When we told our family they also found it to be hilarious.
Just like that, we eventually had 3 more rascals, two girls and one boy.
I loved my family but an opportunity came to me to start following my career.
I began getting some exposer for being a comedian, doing shows in different parts of the world. This interfered with my everyday job of being a father.
I hardly had enough time to spend with my children. Every occasion I saw them, they seemed to have changed from the kids I knew them as.
My wife didn't cry out for attention nor show any signs of concerns, She might have had while I was not around to help with raising our kids due to my shows and tours I went to.

Two months later I ended up taking a break from my job to try to cool off. I was exhausted from all the shows that I had to do. A vacation plan that turned into a job that I didn't apply for. Being a father was mostly a job I had to do in my eyes.
My children were so content on seeing and spending time with their father.
Hearing them argue was annoying and exhausting. Asking me random questions like,

"what do you Iike to do? Do you like songs? Why do you always have a scary face? Will you be taking us to school now since you're here? "

My oldest child, Alisa's questions were more head-scratching than those from her younger siblings.

"Why do you
have mom take care of everything and go?
Don't you want to see your kids grow front of you? Why did you decide, you wanted children if you weren't gonna bother raising them?! "

I failed to answer the question and chose to keep quiet. I mean, explaining this to her would be useless. She was a child who didn't know any better, right?
I just convinced myself that she will understand when she gets older. Alisa will come to know that financially I was there for her.
Being with them from dawn to dusk every day was draining. My wife started hanging out with her friends since I was there now. I could understand why she needed the break from her daily routine. I can't Imagine how she kept this up without a complaint. She really was a strong woman. To think her side of the contract was this massive made me appreciate her a lot more. Six days later, I was already turned into a zombie. I had bags under my eyes caused by lack of sleep. Now I was laying down on my bed when one of my younger kids walked into the room and said,

"Dad, spending time with you is the best thing ever. I wish you could do this more often. I love you, dad!"

With her little legs, ran and give me a warm hug.
Alisa after easdropping, entered as well.

Alisa: I know you have more important things you would rather do but we really miss you, *dad*
Even if you find the days you have spent time with us a drag, we treasure those little fragments of you.

Ran and hugged me very tightly and began to sob into my ear
For some odd reason I was left with a smile after receiving those words.

My wife arriving in the evening, found me
In the same state and asked me
"What is with that smile? I never find you this happy. You're usually a dead beat zombie. "
I ended up telling her everything that put me in a good mood.
She was happy to hear what happened while was away.

The next day I received a call from my agent saying that he found a place that will pay me more money than before
And this was a big opportunity to let it pass. I explained this to my wife and like always she had no problem with it. As I was about to leave. I saw my kids staring at me with sad eyes.
"Hey, hey, hey. Don't worry, I only will be gone for five days and I will be back before you notice it, ok?"
(I am so sorry.)
3 day passed and 2 more.

Dave: we're done, right?

Agent : what? We are booked for a couple of more days. Do you want to cancel them, if so I'll get right on it.

I was going on interviews now and
My popularity had gotten larger.
On the 6th day, I explained to my wife what happened. As always, she was able to empathize with my situation and how much my career meant to me.I told her that I had sent some money to apologize for not keeping my promise to the kids, and buy anything they want.

"Dave, the times that you will spend and play with your kids are not frozen in time. You know that, don't you?
While you can come back to your career whenever you want.
Just make sure you know what's important to You, ok hun?
Later."

.... 2 years went by, I ended up being a successful comedian and one of the richest person in the world. Even though I had it all my heart felt empty like there was nothing in this world that could fill it.
I ended up going back to my family without saving a word to them.
When I got home I knocked at the door feeling excited to see my family again.

*Knock, knock*
The door finally was opened and Alisa was one who opened it.

"Hey...? "
"Hey, how are you?"
(Reached in, to give my daughter a big hug.)

Alisa: what are you doing? Who are you?

Dave : huh? I know it has been a while but c'mon it's me. Your dad.

Alisa : my dad died 2 years ago so I will say it again WHO ARE YOU?

"Hey, hey, hey. What is with all the ruckus?

Alisa : mom, some...man is here saying he is my father.

What? Who are you? Sir please leave my premises before I call the police for trespassing.

Dave: Hehe you got me, babe. OK?

"Who are you calling babe?
This is not a game, please go before I the cops. "

Dave : listen let just go inside and talk.

"Hey! Who do you think you are? We don't know you, YOU ARE A COMPLETE STRANGER TO US !
IF YOU INSIST ON KEEPING UP THIS up, then I would have to call the police."

Dave :I'm sorry, Maya. I regret giving you all the responsibilities of raising our children. Now you can lean on me to lighten your burden.

Before I could alter another word I only heard the sound of the door closing. There was nothing I could do nor say to persuade her that I wasn't some stranger but her husband. I was arrested for trespassing and marked with a permanent restraining order. This meant I could no longer go and see my family ever again. My family became my obsession. Everywhere they went I was their shadow. Seeing Maya remarry was devastating, my kids growing up in front of my eyes. There Was no differences between me and a dead person.
